Let's Hear it for the Boy
Boy George is a busy man. When I talk to him, he's in Stuttgart to DJ for a Hugo Boss party, but the previous night he was in Florence and the next night he'll be back in London . Besides DJing, which will bring him to Australia soon, George is keeping busy with interviews >>
and appearances to promote his new single ‘Time Machine', live performances, his clothing label B-Rude (which has just opened its first shop) and planning a touring production of his musical Taboo.
It's perhaps no wonder then that the thought of a long trip to Australia makes him sound a little wary. George has been to Australia before, but admits that it's a struggle coming to the other side of the world. “It's such a long journey,” he laments, “but whilst I'm there
I always have a good time.” George, playing at the Mardi Gras party and other nights across the country, promises a “party set” with some old favourites and a few future favourites.
A future favourite for Boy George fans could well be ‘Time Machine', a moody, sultry duet with Amanda Ghost. You might never have heard of his “best mate” Ghost, but I can pretty well guarantee you've heard her work, since she co-wrote James Blunt's world-beating ‘You're Beautiful'
Another mate of George's is our own Ms Minogue, for whom he personally made “those trousers with Dame Edna on” for her Showgirl Homecoming tour (the ones she sang ‘Especially For You' in!), and whom he confirms he has been working on a song with.
“She's just very sweet,” he says. “I've met her a few times over the years, but I never realised, first of all, what a great singer she is. She came in and demoed this song that we wrote and she has an amazing voice, she can sing great.”
Boy George is in Australia in February. You can hear his new single ‘Time Machine' at myspace.com/iamboygeorge
